                  OUR STRATEGY (PROGRAM YEAR 3)

The Weed and Seed strategy is a multilevel strategic plan that includes four basic components.

Law Enforcement - We intend to impact and reduce violent crime and illegal drug sales by education, enforcement, and assisting multi-housing complexes and single family residents as to their responsibilities.

Community Policing - We plan to increase the number of positive contacts with Hispanics within the multi-housing complexes, as well as integrating the Hispanic community into existing Block Watch groups. Interaction between law enforcement and youth will also increase because officers will spend time around the Safe Haven.

Prevention, Intervention, & Treatment - We will provide community based programs that develop conflict resolution and drug refusal skills in youth ages 12-17. Reduce early initiation into use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs by enhancing youth coping skills, life skills and personal and cultural development and promoting community awareness, community mobilization and community based activities. Provide a Safe Haven for community and service providers in the Weed and Seed site.

Neighborhood Restoration - We will develop community art and garden projects and increase participation and pride in the community. By community residents actively participating in the clean-up of their community, blight and graffiti will be reduced.
